Abhyanga
Abhyanga is the traditional Ayurvedic full-body warm oil massage that nourishes the skin, calms the nervous system, and promotes deep relaxation. At Aajna Ayurcure, we use dosha-specific herbal oils to deliver therapeutic benefits far beyond a regular massage.

What is Abhyanga?
Abhyanga (pronounced "abh-yan-ga") is a synchronised warm oil massage performed with long, rhythmic strokes that follow the direction of the body's energy channels (Srotas) and lymphatic flow. It is one of the most beloved daily practices recommended in classical Ayurvedic texts.
Therapeutic Benefits
- Nourishes all seven tissues (Dhatus) — from skin to bone marrow
- Calms Vata dosha — reducing anxiety, insomnia, and restlessness
- Improves circulation — both blood and lymphatic flow
- Supports joint health — lubricates and strengthens joints
- Enhances skin tone — natural glow and softness
- Boosts immunity — stimulates the body's natural defence mechanisms
Our Abhyanga Experience
At Aajna Ayurcure, your Abhyanga session begins with a brief assessment to select the ideal herbal oil for your constitution — whether it is cooling Coconut-Brahmi for Pitta types, warming Sesame-Ashwagandha for Vata, or stimulating Mustard-Triphala for Kapha.
The treatment is performed in a warm, serene therapy room by trained therapists using traditional techniques passed down through generations. Each session lasts 45–60 minutes and may be followed by a herbal steam (Swedana) for deeper penetration of the oils.
When is Abhyanga Recommended?
Abhyanga is suitable as a standalone wellness treatment or as a preparatory therapy (Purvakarma) before Panchakarma. It is especially beneficial for stress relief, muscle stiffness, poor sleep, dry skin, and general fatigue.
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Abhyanga
Abhyanga uses dosha-specific medicated oils and follows Ayurvedic marma (vital point) and Srotas (channel) pathways. It is a therapeutic treatment, not just relaxation.
For general wellness, once a week is ideal. During a Panchakarma programme, it may be done daily. Ayurveda also recommends daily self-massage (Swabhyanga) at home.
A light meal 1–2 hours before is fine. Avoid heavy meals immediately before or after the session.
